Williams & Finn • Dublin. 1804–1806

This design is reminiscent of Bank of Ireland notes of the era. The similarity didn't stop the bank from having a short lifespan apparently.

Yes, the £1 notes of this bank bear a striking resemblance to the Bank of Ireland £1 notes of this era. Williams & Finn issued a large number of £1 notes and all appear to have been issued in 1805. Examples turn up frequently at auction.

Other denominations issued by Williams & Finn appear to be scarce or even rare. An example of the much scarcer 1 Guinea note from 1805 is attached.

The Bank was originally set up in Kilkenny in 1800 by William Williams. Michael Finn joined as a second partner shortly after. The Dublin branch was set up in 1804. The Kilkenny notes are seldom seen. Here is an example of a scarce 1 Guinea & Half note from the Dublin Branch dated 18th June 1805.
