Joseph Carshore & Co. Carrick-on-Suir 1805-1810

Joseph Carshore founded a bank in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary, in 1806. The bank appears to have been a small operation with Joseph Carshore acting as a sole partner and is reputed to have failed in 1809.
The attached 1 Guinea note, issued in 1807, recently came to light. It is the only known surviving example issued by this bank. The name of Joseph Carshore appears in scrolling text on the left hand side.

Where do these previously unknown examples come from? Are there sales in Ireland, besides Whytes in Dublin!

The big auction houses such as Whyte's, DNW & Spink are good places to source old notes. However, there are literally hundreds of auction houses based in Ireland, the UK, Europe and US where interesting items occasionally appear. Some of these auction houses may not even have an online presence !
Other good sources for old notes include Coin Fairs, Antique fairs, Bric-a-brac shops & charity shops. You never know where or when the next interesting note will turn up

This note is similar to the 'Bank of Kingscourt' in that it does not list the banker's name, apart from the scrolling text along the left side.

New information suggests that the Bank of Joseph Carshore had a slightly longer existence than was previously thought.

The new date range for this bank should be 1805-1810.

Unfortunately no new banknotes from this issuer !
The newspaper records of the time indicate that the bankruptcy commenced in late 1810. Not sure why O'Kelly referenced an 1809 date for the failure of this bank.
