Lots of collectors like low-numbered notes. Irish low numbers notes, especially of the Lavery series and Ploughmans are quite rare. I haven't seen many. The main website page on Low Numbered Banknotes lists all the recorded Irish notes of the Lady Lavery series with numbers below 000010, amongst other things.

The hand-numbered terminator notes non-extended 100000 and 1000000 are even rarer!
Serial numbers were extended from 100000 per prefix to 1000000 per prefix on Lavery notes as below.
Prior to these dates prefixes changed at 100000 which was hand-set on the note.
Type 7. 10 Shillings from 12.9.51
Type 7. £1 notes from 11.9.51
Type 7. £5 notes from 6.8.52
Type 10. £10 notes from 9.2.60
Higher denominations did not have their serial numbers extended.

This Number 000001 note is interesting as it is the first Northern Ireland £1 note issued by the Bank of Ireland.

Here is a nice one!
The very first small size Bank of Ireland £1 note printed for the new all-Ireland note design in 1922.
This was the first major change to the format of the bank's notes since 1838.

Two Lavery £1 notes dated 30.9.76 have turned up over the past few years. There are certainly more examples of this date with number 000001 which have been saved. They were being actively sought out by collectors at the time of their issue.

Here are some nice examples of Bank of Ireland Sterling Issue number one notes. The Bicentenary £20 is significant as the first example of this denomination issued since 1929.

That A 000001 Bicentenary note is definitely a good find! Number 1 of a scarce issue, looks to be in quite a nice grade also.
