RULES & GUIDELINES FOR POSTING — Please read before posting

Post by Mac »

1. MAKE AN EFFORT TO USE CORRECT GRAMMAR AND A LOGICAL LAYOUT
People are far more likely to read your post and respond to it.
Please do not use phone text-speak, you are not being charged by the character here (yet anyway ;-)). DO NOT SHOUT - People can read just fine.
If using different colours for posting, do try and use a high contrast colour which actually renders your text legible.
Purple, Cyan and Red are reserved colours used by Admin and Moderators for announcements and comment, members are requested to not use these colours.
When using coloured text, it is a good idea to check that the result is legible—eg, dark blue on a black background is difficult to read!

Whilst English is the language of this forum, posts are permitted in other languages provided a translation (google translate is useful here) is also given. Un-translated posts are liable to possible deletion.

2. PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC
If only everyone would do so! Whilst a relaxed approach will be taken to this, this forum is primarily concerned with Irish Papermoney and by extension with other related numismatic subject.
Other things may be discussed in the General Discussions Section. Inappropriate topics will be deleted. It is not for dissemination of advertising or political or religious views, there are lots of other forums for those. Moderators will use their discretion as to what is appropriate.

3. BE TOLERANT OF OTHERS AND WHAT THEY SAY
Treat other forum members they way you would want them to treat you. Whilst you may not agree with what others are saying, they still have the right to say it, even if it is complete stupidity. Defend your point of view without descent into personal attacks or anger.
And keep comment within the rules.

4. REFRAIN FROM PERSONAL ATTACKS ON OTHER MEMBERS
It's just silly really, and wastes everyone's time. Moderators will take action against posts attacking others and against the authors of such posts.

5. NO MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS
Please don't. Like Santa Claus, we'll know about it! And both accounts will be nuked.

6. NO SPAMMING
Users who post advertising and the like will be banned, and their user account will be lobotomised. Some off-topic posts may also be deletable or moved at the discretion of the Moderators. Frequent infractions will simply result in posts being deleted and a warning being issued to the poster.

7. NO UNNECESSARY MULTIPLE POSTS
Use the EDIT function to add to posts. And when editing a post please give a reason for the edit as a curtsey to other posters.
Unnecessary multiple posts are liable to editing by Moderators and serial multiple posting, soliloquizing, will simply result in posts being deleted without comment and a warning being issued to the poster.
Occasionally, a double post of the same message (stereo post) will occur by accident. In such case, please delete the second post.

8. NO UNNECESSARY REVIVAL OF OLD THREADS
Thread necromancy may be regarded as spam. Threads generally die for a reason. So you need to have a good one for reviving them.

9. NO UNSUITABLE IMAGES OR LINKS
Minors visit the forum. Unsuitable content will at the very least result in an immediate IP ban.

10. NO UNNECESSARY SWEARING
Everyone swears sometimes (except moddies of course), for emphasis, out of enthusiasm, or for whatever reason. Whilst mild swearing is permissible, too much, or the use of obscenities will likely result in the post being deleted by Moderators. So keep it cool.

11. NO ADVERTISING OR BUYING AND SELLING OF ITEMS
There are plenty of other opportunities on the internet for this. The Irishpapermoney Forum is strictly non-commercial. Members who break this rule will be treated as spammers and will banned immediately, with their IP address also being banned. Discussion of past auctions, fairs and the like is permitted. Links to commercial websites such as ebay are not permitted.

12. THINK BEFORE YOU HIT THE SEND BUTTON
Is it relevant? Does it add to the discussion? And when stating facts, do try to ensure that they are in actual fact facts.

Moderators will always judge things impartially and give posters the benefit of the doubt when there is a dispute of any kind. They will usually contact a member who breaks the rules before taking action. Any post edits will be done fairly and will respect the poster's right to express their views as long as the post adheres to the above guidelines.

Users who post links to their own items for sale will be banned immediately.
I have unfortunately just had to ban a user who was posting links to their own items for sale on ebay nestled within discussion topics.
This forum is not a commercial venue.
