Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
Yes. Mostly worth about double face value. English notes have much higher printage, so only valuable if they are older, and in new Uncirculated condition.Glasgowman wrote:English banknotes.
I"m away at the moment, will check the others when I get back to my computer on Monday.

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
I have a 1989 20 pound note, pretty good condition, with lots and folds and creases, but crisp/firm paper, and a medium amount of grubbiness on the back. Also, small amount of writing on watermark and small folding hole on the middle. Any idea of value?

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
Not much over its face value I'm afraid, maybe 30 Euro.

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
Thank you for the valuation. I also have a 10 pound note, dated 1987, between XF and UNC condition, a 50 pound note, dated 1991, in VG-F condition, and a 1989 one pound note, UNC. Any thoughts on the value?

£10 1987: 30-40 Euro,
£50 1991: whatever you can get over face value.
£1 1989: 5 Euro

G-VG condition, with folding holes, and frayed edges. Also they are dated 21.4.75, and on one note there is darker paper. Worth only face value?

In that grade those notes are worth face value.

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
Hi, I am new to this site.
I am enquiring if you could possibly give me any information on the Irish Banknotes that my partner has been given. They are all in plastic sleeves, the notes look in excellent condition with no signs of pen marks, tears, holes or creases and we have not taken them out of the sleeves.
We have the following Lady Lavery banknotes:
• Lady Lavery £100 – 26.02.73 – Number on note 02Z062069
• Lady Lavery £50 – 04.04.77 – Number on note 05A022223
• Lady Lavery £20 – 21.03.62 – Number on note 17X065038
• Lady Lavery £10 – 16.07.68 – Number on note 01D564267
• Lady Lavery £5 – 22.01.64 – Number on note 94W364705
• Lady Lavery £1 – 03.04.63 – Number on note 24G600753
We also have 2 different Irish banknotes one being a gentleman with glasses, accompanied by a dog & lady, on the reverse of the note is a map - this one is £20
The last one we have is a gentleman playing a harp with children standing to the right of him, this one is £50.
Any information would be greatly received. We have researched these notes above and have seen that they vary in price on various selling sites.
I would imagine the code would determine the value of the notes.
Could you possibly advise me of the value of these notes, I can post pictures if you would prefer - however I'm not sure how to post pictures in the forum.
Thank you
Regards
Lorraine

@Lorraine-Ellen
Hi, you need to post pictures. Value depends on grade, how nice the notes are.

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
They look to be quite nice.
You can send better pics to the main email address.
The B Series £50 is a scarce replacement note, a pity that it is damaged.
The £100, £50 Lavery notes would be worth at least 300 euro each, more if they are nice, up to 1000 Euro if in high grade. The £20 would be worth a couple of hundred if it doesn't have any creases.
EDIT: 14.20.27
These are in fact colour copies, currently being sold on ebay as 'colour copies'. In legal terms they are forgeries, as the A Series notes are still redeemable.

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
Ok, thank you. I have taken some out of their sleeves, however the only ones I couldn't take out where the £10 and the £1.
The scarce £50 with the tear unfortunately doesn't have the part that has been torn off.
I will send the clearer pictures of the others which I have taken out of the sleeves to the main email address.
Thank you for your help

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
Mac, I want to buy a Lady Lavery £100 note, and there is one in Good (G4) condition on Adverts for €165. It also has writing on the back, and a few edge nicks. Also it's dated 1975. How much should I expect to pay for it?
Also, I bought a £10 note dated 1990 on eBay in Unc? condition for €28, and it has significant edge wrinkles, small border ink mark, and rather large corner fold, and may have been pressed. Know the value?

@Series B Notes
Most sellers on ebay do not use the grading terms accurately.
Some sellers neglect to mention that a note has been cleaned, even though it may be obvious. A few current ebay sellers (three with active listings today) are likely actively cleaning notes.
Most ebay sellers are sound though.
I had a look at that £100. It hasn't been messed with or washed.
Considering that the face value is 127 Euro, 160 seems ok to me
That tenner you describe is worth just its face value in that condition.
You should ask for a refund, as by ebay rules if the description is not accurate you are entitled to return the item. Your rights of return are also covered by consumer rights legislation.

In general, Mac, are soiled, torn, or scribbled-on notes worth only face value?

Re: Banknote Valuations requests thread
That would be the case with more recent Irish notes, unless they are rare.Series B notes wrote:In general, Mac, are soiled, torn, or scribbled-on notes worth only face value?
Pre-1961 Irish notes tend to have some added value even in very low grade. 10/-, £20, £50, £100 Lavery notes will also often have a premium on them even in very low grade.

I have two WB Yeats 20 pound notes and was wondering what their value would be.They are very clean. No damaged corners or pen marks and no fold marks. They are dated 18 /11/87 one has an IEL serial number and the other one has a LEI serial number. They are circulated notes but are in very nice condition.I can't seem to be able to upload photos as it keeps telling me file is too big.

They have no folds at all and no marks.
