Lady Lavery £5 Mulberry Specimen

Post by DOC »

Lady Lavery notes with mulberry serial numbers are well documented on the Irishpapermoney site. Interestingly, this variety is also seen for specimen notes. A scan of a 1963 specimen £5 note with mulberry serials is attached. An example with standard red serial numbers from 1964 is included for comparison.

That is very interesting!
The mulberry tone on the note is quite strong also, a very attractive example.

The mulberry makes for a really pretty specimen, and a nice variety too.

That is a nice example of a mulberry note. By way of contrast, here is an example of a specimen note of the same date with red serial numbers.

I guess as specimens have the mulberry colored ink the Central Bank and printers were ok with its occurrence on the currency.

Anyone seen a £10 mulberry specimen?

I have not seen a mulberry £10 specimen but examples probably exist. I recently spotted a £100 mulberry specimen where the serial numbers have a mulberry tone. By way of contrast, also attached is a scan of a specimen with red serial numbers.

Here is an interesting £1 De La Rue Specimen where the De La Rue Overprint is in Mulberry tone. Attached also is a specimen with the overprint in red for comparison.
