Home Rule for Ireland – Anti-Coercion Fund Bond Certificate ca. 1880

Post by DOC »

A rare and interesting, ‘Home Rule for Ireland’ Bond Certificate, was sold recently at the Whyte’s Eclectic Collector Auction. The Certificate for $1.00, issued in the USA for the Anti-Coercion Campaign in Ireland, features a portrait of Charles Stuart Parnell. The Certificate has a serial number and is undated but would have been issued in the early 1880’s. Few examples are known.

The auction estimate of 1,000-1,500 euro was greatly exceeded with a final hammer price of 2,800 euro. This price is in line with a previous sale at Adam’s. So it is worth keeping a look out for this highly sought after item of historical interest :!:

It's a nice engraving. You don't see too many of these around.
