Got my first Legaede €50 today. Didn’t expect to see them for quite a while.

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
20 euro T notes with plate code T008 have been sighted recently in circulation. It is interesting to see that The Central Bank of Ireland is still releasing Irish euro notes from old stock. We should probably expect 20 euro notes with T007 and T009 plate codes to appear some time also. The updated table of Irish Europa Series notes is attached.

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
Just got a Legarde tenner. Change having paid for a pint. Unusually has an A prefix. I assumed A would be fully used at this stage. W obviously being the print works.

Came from the bottom of a pallet of notes maybe.

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
I thought A was used up with Draghi. I don’t think they start the numbering again with a change of signature. There seems to be a batch of €20 Legarde notes about with RP as the prefix.

I always think some sort of replacement system when something like this appears - except we know there are no replacements any more!

I just can’t seem to work out the numbering. There must be some system.

Apart from the checksum obviously. I thought ranges were just allocated to print works but this tenner throws a spanner in the works for that.

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
The W prefix notes are printed by Giesecke & Devrient, Munich. All notes that I have seen to date for this printer (10 & 20 euro) start with the letters WA. The A really functions as part of the serial number and generates further options for the checksum.
The serial number of the 10 euro note that you posted, WA3109859389, meets the checksum requirements. To convert the W and A to numerical digits, refer to the table in the attached link. In the decimal system, W corresponds to 87, A corresponds to 65.

WA31098559389 converts to 87653109859389. The sum of these digits is 81 which is divisible by 9 and therefore meets the checksum requirements.

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
Just looking at the production figures for 2022 for euro banknotes. It’s a pity we are no longer printing banknotes as next year we are one of the countries commissioning €50 notes for the first time since the launch in 2002. The figures are here. Would have been nice to see T reg €50s!

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
Guy Sohier’s liste.eurobillets.free.fr until recently stated that 2 million sheets of Irish Europa €20 notes were printed.
(ie. 2m X 54 per sheet = 108 million notes)
This has now been updated with a breakdown for each code as follows:
T001 - 12.5 million
T002 - 4.3 million
T003 - 12.0 million
T004 - 8.5 million
T005 - 9.7 million
T006 - 31.0 million
T007 - —
T008 - 3.3 million
T009 - —
T010 - 1.0 million
This gives a total of 82.3 million notes. What happened to the missing 25.7 million? Have they still to be issued as T007 and T009?

T007 and T009 notes might be waiting in a cash centre buried under pallets of later notes stacked on top of them!

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
Some nice data there on the breakdown for each code.
It seems plausible that the missing notes are associated with the T007 and T009 codes. I have noticed a significant drop off in the number of T prefix euro notes circulating in Ireland which suggests that the Central Bank of Ireland has almost exhausted its supply of Irish euro notes. However, it will be interesting to see if the missing T007 and T009 20 euro notes eventually appear in circulation !

Re: Irish Euro Notes - Europa Series
It has been four years since the Central Bank of Ireland stopped printing euro notes and not surprisingly the number of Irish euro notes in circulation has declined significantly. However, I was surprised to come across a crisp uncirculated 10 euro note, TD prefix and plate number T004, in change this week.

Four years is getting on a bit. It seems like they have good supply of T notes stockpiled.

Not sure if anyone spotted this in the annual report. They plan to close Sandyford.

Woah, that's big news!
I would guess that the Sandyford campus is in need of modernising, and as it is sitting on land that may be quite valuable as residential, they have decided to relocate.
