The pictured note is a Bradbury Wilkinson design submission for the Legal Tender Notes. Pictured in the portrait is Thomas Moore, who was an Irish writer, poet, and lyricist.

A very interesting account of the evolution of currency in Ireland. The prototype designs for the Legal Tender Currency are particularly fascinating.

Áille ar Airgead
The life stories of two remarkable women. Mary Cunningham, a poor Irish migrant from Donegal,
was dressed in Native American headgear to become the face of Liberty on the most controversial gold coin ever minted in America,
and Hazel Martyn, born in Chicago of wealthy Irish parentage, was chosen by her husband, John Lavery,
to represent Ireland when he was commissioned to design the new banknotes for a newly independent Ireland.

Re: Irish Bank Note Videos and Reminiscences
The YouTube video with Jonathan Callaway mentions Northern Ireland, and towards the end mentions that it is likely that other banks will cease issuing - First Ttust and its predecessor AIB appeared to take an undue haste in withdrawing the £1 & £5 notes in 1982 and 1990. Northern Bank ceased issuing £1 notes as early as 1978, and all the Northern Banks seemed extremely cautious and conservative with their design until polymer.
Take an Ulster Bank £5 from 1971 and put it alongside one from 2013, there isn’t that much difference.

The dual circulation period in the euro conversion process comes to an end on this day 21 years ago. From then on the punt was no longer accepted as legal tender.

Nice find. There is a lot of hidden history in the Bank of Ireland in College Green. Well worth popping into.
