Northern Ireland Issue
1937-1968
Various design variations were produced from the 1930s through to the late 1960s. The Northern Ulster, and Belfast banks left their note designs largely unaltered right up to the end of the 1960s. Bank of Ireland's classic design of two statues of Hibernia and a row of Mercury heads saw its final appearance on the 1958 five Pound note, marking the end of a basic design that had been in use for 120 years. The National changed its note designs in 1937, and the Provincial bank modernised its notes in 1954.
