Anyone know what bank this is?
No name or bank on it. It mentions Cork.

‘Promise to pay the bearer in Cork or Bank of Ireland paper’ suggests to me that this may be an IOU produced by a non-banker merchant in the Cork area, who is undertaking to redeem the note in banknotes issued by one of the Cork Banks or by Bank of Ireland.

I wonder could the name Anderson in the top margin provide a clue? PMI makes reference to a Cork branch of the Fermoy Bank with John Anderson as lead partner. The monogram is clever and appears to be 'CORK'. An issued example would help to solve the mystery.

That could well be the case. The name Anderson on the note would be quite a coincidence otherwise.

There are very similar notes issued by the Newenhams in Cork with the same C O R K vignette but adding details of the partners. I have seen notes for 3s 9 1-2d, 6s and 9s of this bank. Sorry, can't add an image - the file is too large.

Attached (I hope) is a Newenham's Bank note with the same vignette. I think that might solve this particular mystery!

Nice find Callahiljo and thanks for solving the mystery !

So the original posting is a proof 6 shillings note of Newenham's Bank.

A partial proof - it has the logo, but is missing the bank's name. The promissory text is different also. The first note might be a less sophisticated later note.

They sure look alike. Mystery solved I guess.
