Hi Opar7
Can you post a link to the ebay sale?
Was that note offered as an error?

It can be difficult to decide on the appropriate price for an error note. Mac, is there any recent price guide for Lavery errors?

The value of an error usually depends on the degree of the error, and then on its condition.
Any error that would be pulled from circulation would likely have a higher value than those that would be allowed to go into circulation.

Generally, extra paper errors and errors with print missing are the most popular among the Irish notes, in my experience.
Around 300 Euro for a B or C Series error, and around 400-500 for a Lavery error. Used notes, a bit less.
A slipped digit error is too minor to command a big premium.

The most interesting type of error note would be a replacement note with an error on it.

Thanks Mac for those insights. I like notes that have two different serial numbers. I guess that this type of error on a replacement note would be exceptionally rare !

I am wondering how this banknote came in the hands of the collector, it certainly was not put into circulation with such a defect

The extra bit may have been folded before it was cut, and then noticed by someone who got it from an ATM.
A small number of errors do get into circulation by looking normal until they get into use.
