National Bank £10 note final two dates, 5.12.31, 31.7.39. Mystery solved.

Post by Mac »

I found this when I was looking for something else!

The missing National Bank £10 note data came to light out of a file in the Central Bank of Ireland Archives.

For decades, there has been no information on National Bank Ploughman £10 notes dated 5.12.31 and 31.7.39. Collectors have been keeping a keen eye out waiting for an example of the 5.12.31 £10 note in particular to turn up.

The printage figures for these are as follows:
5.12.31, 01NT 052501 – 01NT 057500
31.7.39, 01NT 057501 – 01NT 059000

The file notes that the banknotes dated 5.12.31 were never delivered, and as such would never have gone into circulation. We already knew that the 31.7.39 date had probably never been issued.

These data also point to the highest number of 2.10.31 was 01NT 052500. The closest observed note is NT01 051444.
