Ploughman notes paid into the Bank of England

Post by Mac »

I came across a Ploughman note with an interesting bank stamp on its reverse recently.

A Provincial Bank of Ireland One Pound note stamped 'Bank of England Birmingham' on the reverse.
Presumably it was paid into the bank's Birmingham branch.

An interesting stamp on the back.
Some bank stamps can give useful intel on a bill's circulation.

Yes, it shows that the Bank of England was active in redeeming Irish banknotes on behalf of the Currency Commission and Central Bank of Ireland.
