Rath Internment Camp was established in 1921 during The War of Independence to inter Irish Volunteer prisoners. Some interesting background is provided in the following link. The camp closed in late 1921 with the signing of the Treaty.

Examples of paper money used in the camp have recently come to light in the National Museum of Ireland. The tokens are similar to the early issues used in Ballykinlar.

I notice that some of these tokens are still in unissued booklet form. They are quite similar to the early Ballykinlar tokens which may also have been produced in booklets.

Yes, the Rath Camp Tokens bear a striking resemblance to the early Ballykinlar issues and both probably came in booklet form. Here is an example of the 1 penny token.

These are very rare! I don't ever recall seeing one on offer.
Certainly a niche end of collecting.

Thanks for sharing the link to these. Very interesting. The similarity to the Ballykinlar tokens is also of interest. Perhaps there was a standard format for camp tokens. The British were good at standardizing things.
