The Irishpapermoney site provides a nice overview of the history of La Touche & Co. (link attached).

La Touche & Co. became the most powerful Irish private bank rivalling even the Bank of Ireland in the late 1700’s. The absence of surviving notes is curious and I am starting this post in the hope that new material will come to hand. The bank stopped issuing banknotes in 1797 after the suspension of cash payments. After that it appears to have only issued post bills. Attached is a post bill for £5 issued in 1813.

That note is a nice addition to the website.
La Touche & Co. had a conservative attitude to note issue, only issuing notes that could be paid in gold.
There is a 5 Guinea post bill from the same era on the main website listing.
Both of these notes are cut cancelled. The rarity of La Touche notes might be due to the bank having continued a long time in business after it ceased its note issue, allowing all the notes to be redeemed.

Re: La Touche & Co. Dublin – 1693-1870
The La Touche family were of French Huguenot origin and established one of the most famous private banks in Ireland. Paper Money of Ireland mentions other examples of families with French Huguenot background who became involved in banking such as Abraham Des Carrier & Co. Dublin and Robert De La Cour & Co. Mallow. I recently found another example, Guillaume (William) Le Fanu, who operated as a merchant and banker in Dublin in the mid 1700’s. The attached link provides some interesting background on the Le Fanu family.

DOC, very interesting! No mention of him in Tenison or indeed elsewhere, otherwise he would have made it into PMI!

He may well have issued some notes in his time!
