Early issued uncancelled £20 notes are rare and seldom turn up. This nice example of a Belfast Banking Company £20, dated 5th December 1905, was sold in 2021 by a UK provincial auction house. The note is signed by H.I. Johns who was a director of the bank at the time.

This early date, issued £20 note from 1900, of The Belfast Banking Company Limited, is up for sale this month at Spink NY. An interesting feature is the reverse printing. This bank was the first Irish Joint Stock Bank to introduce reverse printing as far back as 1879.

Also interesting is that the underprint appears to be black or grey rather than blue as seen on later notes.
