A new £50 Ulster Bank polymer note has just been released (15th June 2022). The note celebrates the contribution of women in Northern Ireland to science and industry. Jocelyn Bell Burnell is acknowledged for her pioneering work in the discovery of pulsars and there are images of women in the Life Sciences and millies, women who worked at looms in the region’s linen industry. There are also illustrations of plants and animals native to the region on the front and back of the note.

The first £50 polymer note is dated 1st March 2021 and bears the signature of Group Chief Executive Officer, Alison Rose. The front and back of the issued note is illustrated.

A very nice addition to the new series.
Colouring is similar to that of the Bank of England £50.

I have seen two forms of the Ulster Bank £50 polymer note, serving as specimens, one with serial number A000000, the other with A123456. Examples attached.

More variety for the collector to chase!
It looks like the note numbered AA123456 is missing the shiny hologram security device.

Yes, the hologram appears to be missing. We will have to wait for another image to confirm if this is real or an artefact of the imaging process.

Here's one pulled from circulation, with hologram in place.

A very nice addition to the series.
Is there any sign of the Bank of Ireland or of Danske Bank doing new 50 or 100 bills? I don't see anything about it on the internet.

I have not seen any announcements for Bank of Ireland or Danske Bank £50 and £100 polymer notes, although it seems reasonable to expect them to be released in due course.

I tried asking for an UNC Ulster £50 in a bank, and got a Bank of England note!

I'd say that Bank of Ireland will do a new £50 and £100 once their existing stock are used up.
I have my doubts that Danske will issue £50 and £100 denominations.

- No mention of either bank issuing them yet.

This announcement from BelfastLive indicates that Northern Ireland £50 and £100 paper banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation later this month. Ulster Bank has already issued a polymer £50. I wonder if Bank of Ireland or Danske Bank will also issue higher denomination polymer notes.

When completing PMI 2nd edition we asked the three remaining issuing banks if they had any plans for polymer £50s and £100s. With the honourable exception of the Ulster Bank £50 they said definitely not. I would not exclude the Bank of Ireland eventually going for a new £50 but I think the days of the £100 note are over. Even in Scotland only two banks issued polymer £50s and only one issued a polymer £100 - the only such note of this denomination in the UK.
