Ploughman £1 Notes - First and Last Prefix

Collectors often aspire to obtain first and last prefix notes for particular note issues. For the Ploughman £1 notes, it is difficult to obtain first prefixes for the eight issuing banks while in many cases the last prefixes were never released.

The first prefix for Bank of Ireland £1 ploughman notes, 01BA, is particularly difficult to obtain. I have seen a few with 02BA prefix including this nice example which recently appeared at auction but not an 01BA prefix.

I have seen very few 01BA prefix notes. Just three recorded in the Ploughman Scan Survey!

It would be a bit of a challenge to collect the 01 prefix of all the banks, I think!
As far as I recall, I do have an 01HA.

01HA prefix £1 notes are rare. The attached note would bring the total count then to just two.

There are four recorded in the Ploughman scan Survey, including these two.

Thanks for sharing those images of interesting first prefix, first date notes. The Northern Bank £1 dated 6.5.29 is particularly rare as the number of notes issued was low and the 01OA prefix extended to the second date.

Here is an example of a first date 01 MA prefix for the Munster & Leinster Bank. I have seen a few examples in low grade but not many examples are available in nice grade.

6-5-29 is quite a scarce date for the Munster & Leinster Bank, difficult to come across.

Interesting to see a scarce 01PA prefix note turn up on ebay !

Here is a first prefix note issued by The National Bank. It is interesting to see the number 1 note from this bank illustrated on the Irishpapermoney site.

Here is an example of an Ulster Bank Ploughman £1 dated 6-5-29 with the 01UA prefix. The red serial numbers bottom right appear to be much darker in tone than those top left.

Another tough date to get for the Ulster Bank.
